Nine Lucid Dreams
Nine Lucid Dreams is an appropriate name for the newest Two Loons For Tea album, considering that the music has a dreamy, ethereal sound. The vocals imposed over airy instrumentation creates tracks that are soothing but spacey.
The songs use a mix of instruments to create their unique style. Marimba, acoustic guitar, bongos, drums and electronic sounds are found on the album at one point or another. The medley keeps the album from sounding uninteresting even though the tempos and styles don't vary much.
It's hard to classify the album into one particular genre. "Consuela" sounds like a mix of pop, jazz and Spanish music. In contrast, "Dixie It Up" sounds just like the title implies. It is reminiscent of an old-time Southern song with a modern indie twist. A common theme running through each track is indie; in "Nine Lucid Dreams," it feels as though Two Loons For Tea injected several elements of indie into several other genres.
The album is unusual and catchy, but not earth-shattering. "Nine Lucid Dreams" will certainly have many fans, but I can't imagine the music making it big in mainstream markets.
