No Love Lost
Kate Schutt's newest album, No Love Lost, is a lovely collection of smooth tunes. There is a definite jazz feel to this album, though Schutt has also been put into the singer-songwriter category. With a deep, rich voice like Norah Jones, Schutt succeeds in satisfying her audience's hunger for serious jazz. The entire CD is actually quite easy to listen to. Some of the especially notable songs include "Mary," "Wrecking Ball" (for its homage/throwback to the noticeable sounds of 1930s and 1940s brands of jazz) and "Calamity," for its smooth and smoldering intensity. Schutt may become a much bigger player on the musical scene in the coming years, and with good reason. No Love Lost came out a little over a year ago, and hopefully will continue to generate buzz for significantly longer. Well done, Kate!
