For those of you who are unaware of the fact that Sara Ramirez is a singer who has showcased her voice on Broadway, this becomes incredibly clear in her recently released EP. This album features only four songs, but all of them demonstrate the power of Ramirez’s voice. Her singing was also recently featured on an episode of Grey’s Anatomy when her character, Callie Torres, suffered horrific injuries in a car accident. The release of this EP was just days before the episode aired.
The first song on the album is “The Story.” This is not an original song, but it was featured on the episode mainly dealing with her character on Grey’s Anatomy. This song really gives Ramirez a chance to show her vocal range. It has a soft quality, but other parts of it are incredibly loud and strong.
“Break My Heart” is a sort of jaded love song. It has a pop quality, but Ramirez’s voice is definitely the most noticeable part of the song. The instrumental aspects of the song complement her voice well and the song is incredibly catchy as it promotes someone trying to move past getting their heart broken.
A pop type sound also comes out in “Waitin.” This song depicts a sort of determination by the singer and Ramirez hits long and high notes that really help to stress the impact of the song.
“Eye to Eye” is the last song on the EP, and it seems only fitting that Ramirez go with a slow and soft song after the other upbeat and emotional songs. She repeats “we see eye to eye; I’m not surprised” many times throughout the song. The main goal of this song seems to just be a love song to show how much two people have in common.
Sara Ramirez has a great voice, and it is showcased on her EP. After listening to these songs, one can only hope that she comes out with much more music in the future.
