Scaredy Squirrel at the Beach, by Melanie Watt, is a story that will be loved by readers of all ages. Those with any sort of obsessive compulsive or paranoia tendencies will relate to and enjoy this book even more. Though part of a series, those who haven't read any of the other Scaredy Squirrel books can still clearly get a sense of what kind of squirrel Scaredy Squirrel is-a scaredy one.

Scaredy Squirrel only feels safe when he's in the vicinity of his own home and around everything else he deems safe. Still, it's summertime and the sun is shining high. All the signs point to a vacation. Yet, Scaredy Squirrel isn't thrilled about the prospect of going to the beach, whatsoever. A beach is a place a squirrel like Scaredy could easily become lost, not to mention the possibility of jellyfish, sea monsters, and seagulls! Thus, the perfect solution would be for Scaredy to build his own safe beach under his nut tree. Scaredy gets to work building his pseudo beach with its artificial scenery. Everything is safe, germ-free, and perfect; yet at the same time, something is missing. As Scaredy faces the fact that it is inevitable that he go to a real beach-since it is necessary to complete his fake beach-it is all on the verge of suspense as to whether Scaredy Squirrel will possibly survive going to such as scary place as the beach.

Scaredy Squirrel at the Beach is an enjoyable story full of laughs. The story is fun, creative, and definitely one of a kind. Perfect for the summer season, you shouldn't hesitate to pick up your copy of Scaredy Squirrel at the Beach.
