Self Help Serenade

Marjorie Fair is a band definitely worth listening. Their debut album Self Help Serenade is a remarkable contribution to music. Every song has something unique and special to offer, with brilliant lyrics setting the mood. No matter which song you choose to listen first, you won't be disappointed, and you will listen to every song again and again. The standouts for this album are the ones that speak to me just a little bit more than the other songs, and those include "Don't Believe," "Empty Room," "Stare," "Waves," "Please Don't," "Stand In The World," "Silver Gun" and "My Sun Is Setting Over Her Magic."

Marjorie Fair has an old soul sound to them, but at the same time, they keep you firmly centered in the moment. Their melodic and beautiful music perfectly combines alternative and psychedelic styles with incredible power, gentleness and whimsicalness. Evan Slamka's passionate and haunting vocals subsume the listener into the world of the song being heard.

Marjorie Fair is my first review of 2006, and I know their album Self Help Serenade is going to remain strong on my 2006 list of "most listened to albums." Do yourself a big favor and check these guys out.
