Shannon Tweed may have just finally become Mrs. Gene Simmons, but her own life story is just as interesting as his. In this memoir, Tweed recounts her childhood in Canada where she was born as one of six children. Her parents first raised them on a minx farm in Newfoundland until Tweed was around 15. When the youngest, Tracey Tweed, was still a baby a family tragedy struck when their father was paralyzed in a car accident. Tweed’s mother sold the farm and shortly afterwards divorced her husband before moving her children to Saskatchewan. It was during her teen years in the Canadian prairies that Tweed blossomed and began modeling.
Tweed participated in beauty pageants in Canada and eventually became Miss Ottawa Valley in 1978 where she sang during the talent competition. Her title lead to more modeling jobs and appearances on Canadian television shows. In 1980 she was selected on Thrill of a Lifetime where her dream of being a Playboy centerfold was featured. Her layout led Tweed becoming a ‘Playmate of the Year’ and her fateful meeting with Gene Simmons at the Playboy mansion.
Tweed chronicles her life with Simmons and their relationship as parents to their two children. The book was also written around the time that the reality show Gene Simmons Family Jewels began airing. There is a lot of Shannon in this memoir and not as much of Gene so its definitely a read for the Tweed fans.
