Back in 1999, I thought this was the best movie ever made. I was young and thought any kind of romantic movie was great, especially one about the years during high school. But now, when I look back at this film, I do not know what I saw in it. "She's All That" was a romantic comedy directed by Robert Iscove and was written by R. Lee Fleming, Jr. It starred Freddie Prinze, Jr., Rachael Leigh Cook, Anna Paquin, and Paul Walker.
Freddie Prinze, Jr. played a teenager named Zack Siler. Zack is your stereotypical popular jock who played on the soccer team, was school president and had girls dying to be with him. At the beginning of the film, Zack is dumped by his popular girlfriend. Instead of sitting back and basking in the rejection, he decided to take on a bet placed by his best friend, Dean, who was played by Paul Walker. Zack agrees that he can turn any girl into a prom queen and is left with turning the school's biggest nerd, Laney Boggs, which was played by Rachael Leigh Cook, into a knockout.
Like I said, at the time of its release, I thought it was the best movie ever. But to be completely honest, it was a corny film. Nothing about it seemed too realistic. The lines were corny and the acting was not that great. I remember there was a big deal being made about Usher being in the film but he barely had any lines. I actually feel his presence made the film a little worse, especially during the party scene when he made everyone do the dance he says he taught them. The movie did something I hate the most; organized spontaneous dancing. It made it seem as if everyone in the school got together to learn how to do a full dance routine. I don't think I could sit down and watch this movie again.
