Shinedown is mostly known for their single, “Second Chance,” which contains a strong pop rock sound but now Shinedown is back with a brand new single for 2012, “Bully.” Shinedown recaptures their modern rock with a slightly heavy metal influences sound with “Bully.” Heavy guitar rifts and intense drum sequences help make this song have more heart. The guitar solo in the middle of the song is nothing less than impressive.
Shinedown writes an emotional anthem for anyone that has been bullied or disrespected. The lyrics are empowering. This song is a head banging, motivation anthem. Shinedown sings, "We don't have to take this, back against the wall. we don't have to take this, we can end this all." The lyrics are extremely powerful and honest.
The song does draw comparisons to Rise Against’s “Make It Stop, (September’s Children),” both songs take on an anti-bullying theme and have hard rock melodies but Shinedown presents an entirely new direction with this song and separates themselves from bands like Rise Against.
Shinedown does takes on a harder edge with this song. The harder sound works with the emotional theme. A theme that will inspire.
Shinedown has not yet reached the status of similar sounding bands such as, Rise Against or Nickelback, but with this new single and a constant track record of releasing strong rock music, it should just be a matter of time before Shinedown reaches full stardom.
