'Side-By-Side' concert flops for Weezer and The Flaming Lips

Weezer and the Flaming Lips couldn't make fans happy

How is it that two extremely well known and loved bands can make such a terrible error?

On July 29, the two bands decided that they would play together at Nikon Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, New York. As in, completely share the stage while taking turns singing songs. At first, this doesn't sound like such a bad idea. But after hearing what the audience had to say, I beg to differ.

From fans who attended the concert, I got down to the reason why the concert was a bust. Basically, each band performed for three songs. The Flaming Lips came on, and, after three songs, bam, Weezer came on and sang. And once they were down, The Flaming Lips got back on the mic.

Not exactly the most time-effective plan.

"It was like, when one band played a song, you were sort of interested. And then they played a second song, and you got up out of your chair. And then the third song comes on, and you're full on rocking out. Right when you start to get lost in the music, it stops and you have to go back to square one with a new band," said one concert-goer.

Several fans apparently agree, as I went around to a handful of people who went. They politely coined the concert as "underwhelming."

I think a big problem was that normally, when seeing a concert, you get to hear around 16 to 18 songs from the artist you're intending to see. Instead, you got only half your money's worth, since the two bands shared the stage and, subsequently, their songs.

However, if you were a die-hard fan for both of these artists, then maybe this was your speed.

When asked for the highlights of the show? Wayne Coyne, a member of The Flaming Lips, ran around the venue in a plastic bubble. Much like a hamster.

I think for next time, rockers should play it safe and keep the stage to themselves.
