Songs About Jane

Nola Mokeyane

While Maroon 5's first track on "Songs About Jane" is titled "Harder To Breathe," this album is nothing but a much needed breath of fresh air. The lead singer, Adam Levine, has a soulful and accomplished voice that makes you forget you are listening to alternative rock 'n' roll. This pleasant compilation of alternative rock, soul and jazz leaves the listener greedily craving more, yet thoroughly pleased with all 46 minutes of the album.

From the get-your-back-off-the-wall funkiness of "This Love," to the heartfelt, romantic lyrics of "She Will Be Loved," right on down to the ingenious blend of Stevie Wonder and Elton John in "Sunday Morning," this album is just another example of the astute business savvy of Clive Davis, of who's J Records is home to this dynamic quintuple. These boys are not playing any games! Maroon 5's exotic, unorthodox sound is one that is an entity to be acknowledged and subsequently respected. Upon attaining knowlege of this album's dexterity and pure excellence, if I were any of you, I wouldn't sleep too long on this album.
