The Spartacus: Vengeance storyline rolls on, this week focusing a lot more on Oenomaus and his back story. The episode beings with a young Oneomaus fighting in the pits and Titus Batiatus buying his services. Cut to the present, and a fully painted adult Oneomaus prepares to fit in the pits once again.
Spartacus, Crixus, Agron and the other former gladiators raid a villa in hopes of finding Naevia there. They kill every Roman in the villa, including the master of the house, but not before he tells Crixus that he recalls Naevia, and that she was passed to another house. Spartacus tells all the house slaves that they are now free, and can join Spartacus and his men if they choose to.
In Capua, Lucretia goes on and on about needing to appease the Gods, and that it may help with the whereabouts of Spartacus. Glaber is willing to entertain her, and makes Ilithyia see to whatever she needs.
After liberating the slaves at the villa, one of them, Nacir, tries to kill Spartacus in his bed. Nacir is subdued, and tells Spartacus he has nothing to live for, and wants death. Spartacus informs Crixus and the others that he will be given the chance to train with the other newly freed slaves, but Crixus tells Nacir that if he makes an attempt on anyone else, Crixus will kill him.
Cut back to Oenomaus fighting in the pits. He isn't exactly fighting as the great gladiator we've seen in episodes past, as if something's up with him. More back story is given as it cuts away from the fight. Young Oenomaus is told by Titus that all gladiators must fight with and for a purpose, or there is no point to be fighting at all. Spartacus uses that same message while training Nacir and the other freed slaves.
In the market in Capua, Lucretia is collecting what she needs for her sacrifice to the Gods when Seppia arrives and steals Ilithyia away. The two women talk, with Seppia acting as if she's better than the wife of the Prator. Lucretia is blessing all the townspeople on behalf of the Gods when a mysterious hooded figure hands her a piece of paper with a hidden message on it.
While the women are in the market, Seppius meets with Glaber on the subject of Spartacus. Glaber wants the support of Seppius and his men, but the young noble isn't having any of it. The two continue to butt heads over who will gain the glory of brining down Spartacus until Seppius gets up and leaves.
Lucretia performs her ritual for the Gods by sacrificing a goat she had purchased in the market. Nothing seems to have happened. As Ilithyia moves toward Lucretia and the knife, the action shifts back to Oenomaus in the pits. He's getting his clock cleaned, and we see another flashback of him receiving the mark of Batiatus.
Just as it seems we've seen the last of Oenomaus, the hooded figure appears and kills the opponent and the guards around the arena in the pits. Oenomaus recognizes the man as he is knocked out.
Romans arrive at the villa Spartacus and his men are at. They send out Nacir in an attempt to get rid of the Romans, and it seems to be working until the Roman notices that Nacir isn't wearing the slave collar. Nacir says something to the Romans that makes Crixus think they are being betrayed, and a fight ensues.
As the Romans are being dispatched, one Roman is beelining toward Spartacus with a clean kill shot lined up. Nacir gets there in time, killing the Roman, and explaining to Crixus that the Roman had in fact noticed the collar missing. He explained the only way to get keep them from getting more Romans was the kill them all.
Back at the house of Batiatus, Oenomaus is thrown to the floor at the feet of Glaber, the hooded man also present. A familiar voice is heard as the hood is removed: Ashur, the former slave under Batiatus who was always up to something. That doesn't seem to be any different now, as he and Lucretia exchange a look that indicates everything is going according to whatever plan they may have.
