Portland duo Lifesavas seeks to bring attention to the long overlooked Northwest hip-hop scene with Spirit in Stone. On this album, Vursatyl and Jumbo the Garbageman prove that they have skills to stand amongst other hip-hop artists. In fact, Lifesavas brings a substance that's been absent in this genre. Vursatyl and Jumbo are not afraid to tackle political and social issues. Their rhymes are crafted well and delivered expertly. Thoughtful lyrics backed by interesting beats make Spirit in Stone such a welcome album to hip-hop. Notable tracks include, "Soldierfied," "Fever" and "Hellohihey." Even if you're not a fan of hip-hop, you will appreciate Lifesavas talent. Spirit in Stone is worth checking out.
