'Take A Bow,' Greg. You Deserve It

The Southern California native Greg Laswell likes to take chances. And luckily for him, and us, they pay off big time.

The indie singer/songwriter’s Take a Bow is a beautifully contemplative work that truly takes the listener on an emotional journey.

Laswell’s last album was written as he was going through a divorce, thus it was more dark and heavy. But this album he admits that he’s happier. And while he may be generally happier there is no doubt that his divorce, which blindsided him, has left a scar, leaving a pain deep inside that works it’s way out in his music. Which is not a bad thing, in fact it adds strength, integrity, and honesty to the album.

Take a Bow opens up with the “Take Everything” a solid Indy rock song about his willingness to give it all away to the person that is worth it. Followed quickly by a minor ballad “My Fight (For You)” about vying for someone’s love, and not being appreciated about it.

The title track is an acoustic waltz in which Laswell sings about thinking too much, and not taking action. Filled with melodic and harmonic twists, this track is easily one of the highlights of this album.

This album is worth a listen. But you’ll have to wait until May 4.
