At the center of the 18-piece band, is the composer and piano player, Gordon Goodwin. Drawing inspiration from the golden era of Jazz, they're latest effort, That's How We Roll, has earned 9 Grammy nominations. They've received praise from some of the biggest outlets in journalism as the cleanest outfit in music today. They decided to dole out ten original tracks and a tribute to George Gershwin, with "Rhapsody in Blue." Goodwin claims that Gerswhin was the greatest composer in American history, and hopes he would be pleased with their rendition.
The track list features some tributes, in name, to the Looney Tunes, with the track "Hunting Wabbits 3 (Get Off My Lawn)." Although most of the songs don't feature vocals, "Never Enough" features a host of more than capable singers who accent the song beautifully. The album manages to deliver frantic, yet controlled instrumentation throughout, and each of the 18 members (who play 23 instruments) gets to shine individually, within the ensemble.
As far as the general listening experience, it's definitely music that will have you up and dancing, or at the very least, tapping your foot. I wouldn't recommend it for any quiet engagement, as the album has the ability to take center stage very quickly.
