Varese Sarabande has issued the long-awaited CD soundtrack to the Sherman brother's film musical of Tom Sawyer (1973). Well known for their musical Mary Poppins, the Sherman's score had some good songs worth revisiting. One of the interesting aspects of the score is John Williams' adaptation and conducting of the score. The Main Title is a nice piece covering most of the themes with that elegant Williams' touch and flows into the River Song (Theme from Tom Sawyer) performed by Charley Pride. One of the nicest songs is How Come, which was written for a memorable scene with a young Jodie Foster. The album also contains the Sherman's score to the sequel Huckleberry Finn. Overall, it is a fun score for a time when the film musical was struggling for life.
