Violence is Golden
The debut album from The Scanners, "Violence is Golden," is an interesting and fairly well made album. The album doesn't start out in the strongest way. The first few tracks are sort of angsty alternative rock reminiscent of Garbage or even The White Stripes. This sort of uninteresting beginning does set up the album in an interesting way. The album is like a progressively budding flower. The first few tracks being the sort of tracks one might expect from any alternative rock band creates a sort of disinterest that creates an excitement, as the album gets more and more complex. By track five, "Bombs," the listener starts to wake up with the more interesting lively, yet grinding track. Soon the bud continues to open as the album is refreshed by the almost Beatles like melody of "Evil Twin." This is where it becomes obvious The Scanners are more than simply the clich? hipster band they may seem to be at first glance. There is certainly hope for this band to be big in the next few years, especially if they continue to build on the later tracks of the album, especially "Evil Twin" and "High Flyer," even more basic punk tracks like "Air 164" convey an energy that can lead to greatness. Overall, this entire album is fun to listen to and has some interesting and creative elements.
