Rush of Fools, a Christian band founded in 2005, has created another fantastic album with their 2011 release, We Once Were. Fans of the band, fans of Christian music, and fans of the rock/indie rock genre in general should find this album enjoyable. The album is reminiscent of bands like The Killers and Yellowcard, but with a still distinct sound.
The album is very accessible even to those who don't look for the religious aspect to the music. Most of the songs can be enjoyed without getting too much of the religious overtones. On the other hand, for those who look for the religious aspect, the lyrics will speak to them and offer a touching insight. But the good, simple, catchy music is something that can be enjoyed by anyone.
The single from the album, “Come Find Me”, is an upbeat and moving piece with a catchy drum line and guitar riffs. The song is certainly not the best on the album, but is a good song all the same. The best song on the album is arguably “A Civil War”. The song starts with a very military style drum line, which continues throughout the song. Lyrically the song is excellent, weaving a tale of someone discovering the need for a change in their lives and a re-assessment of priorities. With a memorable guitar line and vocalist Wes Willis's smooth voice, the song is sure to stick with those who hear it.
All in all, the album is worth listening to if you like indie rock or Christian rock, and is an album Rush of Fools can be proud of.
