Wonderland - Original Broadway Cast Recording

Alice Through a Whole New Looking Glass

Composer Frank Wildhorn and lyricist Jack Murphy provide a new multi-faceted interpretation of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, in their Original Broadway Cast release of Wonderland.

The contemporary recording incorporates a varied soundscape of sounds, from multiple musical genres, in addition to traditional theatrical fare. The popular inspired score, which starts off with the whimsical "Overture," moves in many other directions: "Down the Rabbit Hole" embraces seventies based music arrangements; uplifting and welcoming track " Welcome to Wonderland" greets listeners with a carnival of Big Band/New Orleans/Dixieland Jazz; the very modern "Drink Me," with "Imogen Heap" stylized vocal layering; the seventies R&B instrumentation/harmonization of "Advice from a Caterpillar"; "Go with the Flow," which is written around Carlos Santana's hit classic, "Oye Como Va"; and the Urban Boy Band sounds of "One "Knight." Another highlighted track featured towards the end of the title, "I Will Prevail," starts off with a gothic introduction leading to a full fledged eighties type of theatric Rock drama that would make eighties singing diva Bonnie Tyler proud. The melodious score's lyrics are also made to fit current times, as in "Hail to the Queen," for example, with proper mention of "land of credit cards and endless debt," which fittingly parallels today's universal economic hardships.

Wildhorn and Murphy's musical journey is an invitation where one can hopefully discover Wonderland.
