The Zombie Diaries

Todd Barwick
The coming of the zombie infestation as seen through the eyes of different amateur filmmakers.

Told in three separate installments, this movie documents the start of a plague, which slowly is turning mankind into zombies, through the zombie apocalypse.

In the first installment, we see a group of amateur filmmakers heading into the countryside to do some interviews concerning a rumored epidemic. When their car breaks down, they find themselves stranded at a farmhouse which slowly becomes surrounded by zombies.

In the second installment, set a month later, we find a young couple, along with their amateur cameraman, heading into town to get food. You guessed it, they meet up with zombies.

In the third installment, a group of survivors have been slowly killing off the zombies, and unfortunately for them, start slowly being picked off themselves.

Too much build-up and not enough substance left me very eager to turn this off even before the first part ended. There was no tension and no drama, and just when you thought things were picking up, an ambiguous ending. We will get back to our group being stranded in the woods in the dead of night, but not until we watch the other two installments first.

The second part was also free from drama and tension, and the acting was worse. And by this time, the camera work, done in the style of Blair Witch, became very annoying.

By the time the third film started I was just put off and bored. And this segment started in with a lot of gore, but alas too little too late. Still no tension, no drama, and of course still the obnoxious hand-held camera work and shoddy acting.

The only reason to rent this film is if you are an amateur filmmaker. Unfortunately, you will look at it more as an exercise of what not to do in a horror film, than what makes a good horror film.
