A Star-Filled Trip
I was attending a meeting in Los Angeles around 1990. We were staying at the Hollywood Sheraton for a new product launch. The afternoon prior to the meeting I was down by the pool and had my first celebrity sighting. Lounging poolside was Telly Savalis, sans lollypop.
That evening, I had gone down to the lobby to head for the meeting. The lobby has several large marble pillars that have to be at least six feet across. Well, I was gawking around and not paying attention to where I was going and, as I walked around one of the pillars, I ran right into someone standing on the other side. As I quickly expressed my apologies I realized that the person I had run into was Stevie Wonder. He was gracious and said something along the lines of “no problem.” However, his entourage looked none too happy with me. The thing that struck me most was how big he was. I guess I took the Little Stevie Wonder of my youth a bit too literally.
One final note on the trip. I shared the limo back to the airport with the British rockers, The Pet Shop Boys. This Texas boy sure had some tales to tell when he got home.
