Steven Tyler

Walk This Way

I was about 16 and I had went to the mall in Oklahoma City (where I grew up)with my mother, aunt and cousin. As my cousin and I were walking through a music store, we heard the employees saying that Steven Tyler was downstairs at the mall and was going to come up and sign some albums for them. So, my cousin and I left the music store and started scouting every shop on the first floor of the mall. We found him in a shop that sold knives. He was standing there talking to the clerk about a certain knife he was interested in. He also had a very large man with him and we assumed that that was his bodygaurd. We kept our distance and watched as the clerk wrapped up the knife he wanted and the bodygaurd pulled out a roll of cash and paid for it. They both left the store and started walking through the mall. I remember Steve was wearing a black leather jacket with Patches sewn all over it. My cousin and I followed at about a 4 foot distance behind the rocker until they decided to hop on the escalator and Steven turned to us behind him and said "walk this way." Excited, we caught up with them and rode the escalator to the top. When we got to the top, we walked right up beside him and asked him if we could have his autograph. He said sure and asked us to show him the way to Camelot Music. We were excited. So now there I am walking through the mall elbow to elbow to one of the greatest rockers of all time. He stops in front of a toy store and grabs a sqeeze type bike horn and starts honking that thing behind his back while opening his mouth and acting like he was making the sound. He did this out toward all the people walking around in the mall. It was hilarious. We then walked down to the music store and we were the first to get his autograph and then, after doing some other signing, he went through the store and bought a Red Hot Chili Peppers album. The word had gotten around in the mall and people were flooding in the store wanting his autograph. So we made our way back out of the store. I was happy that I had my cousin with me and Steve's autograph. Otherwise, no one would have ever believed my story about my Saturday afternoon trip to the mall in Oklahoma.
