Meeting Tom and Dustin filming
Our little town of El Reno, Okla., played host to the cast and crew of "Rain Man" for a few short days. They filmed the Amarillo motel scene in a motel on the edge of town. They changed the sign to say "Amarillo's finest." Of course, every day, people would go out to watch the filming and try to catch a glimpse of the stars. One evening during a break, Tom and Dustin came toward the small gathering to shake hands and sign autographs. Tom was married to Mimi Rogers at the time and she was rather rude. As a child reached out to shake Tom's hand, she snatched Tom away and made him leave. It was unbelievable. She must have been in a really bad mood that day. Tom and Dustin were more than friendly and went out of their way to talk to us little town folk. That is the story of my brush with a celebrity.
