Brooke Shields was part of Bike-A-Thon
Back in the mid 1970s, a bicycle shop, Mangano's, around the corner from our house in Brooklyn, sponsored a Bike-A-Thon. Brooke Shields was there as a celebrity endorser at the time. My sister, who was about 5 years old, could not see her. I said, there she is. As I lifted my sister on my shoulders, she shouted, "where is Brooke Shields." To that, Brooke, who was on a four-seater bike with three of her friends, turned around and said, "It's tough being a star!" True story.
