Cher

A few months ago, I was shopping at a local Wegman's grocery store, looking for something to buy for dinner. This particular store is the biggest and nicest grocery store in our area. They even have a gourmet restaurant, french bakery, hot prepared foods designated by country, and a huge produce section. I happened to be in the hot prepared foods area, trying to decide between a fresh salmon dinner or chinese take-out. As I was looking at the salmon, a woman next to me asked me if I knew how good the salmon was. Before looking at her I said that I had had it a few times before and it was absolutely delicious. She went on to say that this was her first time in this store, and she was very impressed, as they do not have anything like it in California. At that moment I looked up, and saw Cher standing there, in a casual sweat pants outfit and scarf covering her head. I of course did a double take and jumped just a little bit, being quite startled and not expecting to see a celebrity in the grocery store. She started laughing at my response and said, "I guess I don't have to introduce myself, but please keep this on the down low, as we don't want to attract too much attention." I could see a few men loitering around, who I assumed were her bodyguards, but they were trying real hard to look interested in the hot foods. I just said, "well you picked the best store around to come too, and nice to meet you, my name is Linda", in a very breathless voice. We talked a bit about the local area and attractions, and I gave her a few suggestions of places to see, if she had the time. She was very polite, and down to earth, and I think she did choose some of the salmon to take back to her hotel. Cher mentioned that she had been lucky so far that day, because not many other people in the store recognized her, and she could shop just like any other customer. I did not ask her for an autograph, because I felt that it would ruin such a spontaneous and "normal" moment in our lives. I told her it was "very nice meeting and chatting with you" and walked away with a huge smile on my face and secret in hand.
