Two handshakes from Roy
In 1965 my family and I happened to be down visiting family in Indiana. We decided to go to the State Fair that year and found out that Roy Rogers was going to be there. He was my very favorite hero at the time. Actually still is. Anyway....we met Roy and saw his beautiful horse Trigger. I shook hands with him at that time. I was 11 years old at the time.
I went on after high school to join the Army and was stationed in New Jersey in 1975 when I heard a new Roy Rogers Resturant was opening not far away. I managed to get the day off work and go stand in line for about two hours to shake his hand all over again. I told him that I had met and shook his hand at the Indiana State Fair 10 years eariler. He smiled and said he remembered being at the state fair but there were so many people he met that day that he couldn't remember my face. I told him I understood because I was only 11 years old at the time. We both laughed and I told him I always looked up to him as a star. He thanked me very much.
