Presidential Par 38
Fore! Growing up, my backyard was connected to the 8th hole tee off of a fancy golf course. My little sister and I got very accustomed to laughing at the golfer's funny clothes and missed shots. Needless to say, I was very glad we kept our mouth shut this time.
I was young the day I met Bill Clinton, he'd just recently become president. We had heard through the grapevine that he would be golfing on a local course that day. Never did we expect to see The President of the United States in our backyard.
We were both in shock, because we'd never met or seen anyone famous. Mr. President (at that time) put his golf ball onto the tee, wound up his back swing, and gracefully hit the ball straight into the woods. The next attempt ended up in a nearby yard. Finally, one got on the green and we all clapped.
The President saw us waving on our swingset and actually started coming our way! Being the smart little 12-year-old that I was, I told my sister "I'll handle this." I had a baseball with me and my mother had brought out a magic marker. In my most adult voice I said, "Hello Mr. President, nice to meet you. (hand shake) Could I please have your autograph?"
He had so much security around him, but he smiled and took my baseball and marker and signed it for me! Then he held it up for the crowd to see. He then signed another autograph for our mother.
We follwed the crowd all the way to the hole, in which the President eventually got the golf ball in...even though it took a couple tries and a couple more shots into the woods.
