Seeing a movie with Daryl Hannah
About 10 years ago I went to the Telluride (Colorado) Film Festival. I crossed paths with celebrities of all kinds (I couldn't get over how thin Michael Stipe from R.E.M. appeared, or how short and chunky Roger Ebert was), but those are separate stories. I saw Daryl Hannah a number of times. She was tall, thin, pretty. Sometimes she was alone (and I would say "hi" to her when she was, because she always looked kind of sad) but usually she had a companion or two with her. Anyway, the cool thing was that there wasn't much difference between the celebs and us "normal" people as far as getting in to the theaters and finding a seat. So at one screening I found myself sitting about 20 feet away from Ms. Hannah and another young woman there with her. During the movie I heard an un-ending crinkling sound of junk food bags being opened and the contents eaten. (I thought Roger Ebert had sneaked in.) When the lights came up after the movie, I had to walk past where Ms. Hannah and friend had been sitting. There was an incredible - and messy - pile of junk food, their bags, soft drinks--you get the picture. I don't want to infer anything, but I wondered how she stayed so thin.
