We spent the day with Garth Brooks
My son was born medically fragile, and even today, he is on a ventilator to breathe at night. The Make a Wish Foundation gave him a wish and he chose meeting Garth Brooks. We flew to Florida where Garth was playing with the Mets at their training center. Garth treated Jake and his brothers with such respect and care. He pitched to all the boys. Taylor, my oldest, hit a hard one right past Garth’s head. Garth took the boys into the locker room, and the Mets players gave the boys autographed bats and hats. (Mom couldn't go in - not even for medical reasons - darn it!). The best part was when Garth told Jake "This one's for you," when he went up to bat FOR HIM!
After all was done Jake told Garth how much he loved his songs, and when Jake was in the hospital with two spinal fusions (front and back) and in so much pain, he would put on his headphones, and we would hear Jake sing, "I'm much too young to feel this damn old!" Garth got him through it! Now 16 years old, Jake is still with us, and Garth is still one of his favorites--a county boy all the way. Thanks to Make a Wish, Jacob will have a good memory of his day with Garth Brooks.
