Billy Baldwin & Chynna Phillips

Working brunch with a hangover.
Living in Manhattan, I've seen many celebrities: Jerry Seinfeld, Drew Barrymore, Julianne Moore, Eric McCormack, Matt Dillon and many more. For the most part, you don't confront them, but rather allow them their anonymity for the bragging rights of slipping their name into conversation with friends and co-workers.
One incident was different. I was working as a waiter during Sunday morning brunch at an Upper West Side restaurant (one featured in the movie "You've Got Mail!"). Brunch is never a pleasant experience for a waiter, but less so when you're sleep deprived and you've got a pounding hangover. Billy Baldwin and his beautiful (and pregnant) wife came in with their toddler, and I did what I could to accommodate them and their kid’s stroller in the busy restaurant. BB was very gracious and very friendly. He had a long conversation with me, asking where my accent was from (South Africa), and showing a lot of interest in my home country.
Unfortunately, all I could think of was how backed up my section was getting and how my pissed off my other customers were becoming. This, together with my throbbing head, blocked out all the content of the conversation, and I avoided any more chat with this very nice couple. New Yorkers don't like waiting for their first cup of coffee, whether they're being held up by a celebrity or any other person.
