Dumped a Cup of Water on His Golf Shoes
We went to the Sr. Golf Classic in Mason, Ohio several years ago. We were walking through the parking lot w/another couple and I asked "Is that Jack Nicklaus?" I didn't know golf at that time. They replied "NO that's Arnold Palmer!" I said who is that and they said the greatest golfer ever. No one would go over to him...he was getting his clubs & shoes out of the trunk for the tournament. No one was around him so I said I would go and get his autograph for them. So I walked over carrying a cup of water, hat and a newspaper clipping from the day before. As I was holding the newspaper in one hand for him to autograph, I gradually dumped the cup of water all over his golf shoes! Talk about embarassment! I couldn't speak & neither could he. His ball landed 2 feet from me on the 13th green later that day...and if looks could kill. People were coming up to me after he left the green and asked if I knew Arnold...my husband replied laughing..."Yeah, she dumped water all over his golf shoes!"
