Lunch at Po-boy Don's
One day, my mother and I were visiting a friend in Delta, Louisiana and decided to go eat lunch at a friend of her's po-boy restaurant. This place was called Po-boy Don's. The restaurant was around a bayou and simple livin' was what it was known for, so it wasn't unexpected to have a jukebox or somebody playing guitar and singing while you ate. This day was no different. A brown-headed younger guy in a baseball cap was sitting in the next booth, strumming on his guitar and singing his best tune. We really didn't pay much attention, ate our lunch, and left. A couple of months later we came back to visit and again decided to eat at Po-boy Don's. Don came over to say hey to us, and we began a conversation. He started telling us about a friend/old neighbor of his that got a record deal and wanted to know if we had heard of him. His name was Tim McGraw, and Don asked if we wanted to hear a tape he had made. We of course said yes, and Don played us the track. As we sat there and listened, we heard our laughing voices in the background! Tim McGraw had been the same cute guy in the baseball hat we had heard a couple of months earlier! We all got a big laugh, and when Tim got famous and decided to do his "Down on the Farm" video, he came back to Delta to film it and let us be in the video: a crowd shot, but hey, soooo worth it be able to hang out with such a gorgeous specimen of a man! Everytime I see one of his videos, or read about him, I still get the image of a skinny guy in a baseball cap, sitting on the top of a table, strummin' on a guitar.
