Richard Basehart
This hapened to my brother a number of years ago, but I felt was worth mentioning. My brother was on leave in New York City while in the Navy. He had stopped in a restaurant to have something to eat. He was in his Navy dress uniform and was approached by a distinguished older man, who introduced himself as Richard Basehart, the lead actor at that time in the TV hit, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. He introduced himself and told him how proud he was to meet someone serving in the Navy since his show had centered around that particular military service. It was a cold rainy night and he noted that my brother did not have a warm coat. So, he took off his expensive overcoat and gave it to him as a gift in appreciation for serving his country. I know this story may seem outdated, but with our servicemen and servicewomen serving in Iraq today, I thought it might be appropriate for our times.
