The day 35 years ago my sister and I MISSED seeing the actress of our then favorite TV show even though she walked right next to us
In 1970, my parents took my sister and I to one of Chicago's tallest nicest hotels for the weekend. I was 11 years old and my sister was 10.
We were very excited because we knew Barbara Eden was performing in the nightclub along with impersonator/comedian Frank Gorsham. My sister and I never missed an episode of "I Dream of Jeanie" and were big fans. During check-in, we were standing in line with my parents and we were joking with each other oblivious to the crowded lobby.
Well, my mom floored us when she asked if we thought Barbara Eden looked the same in person. The beautiful actress had just walked right by us - within arm's reach - and neither my sister or I realized it. We were shattered, and used every excuse to get out of the hotel room - so we could roam the lobby and elevators - hoping to spot Ms. Eden. We even snuck up to the penthouse floor.
But we never did see Barbara Eden, and learned a lesson about paying attention.
