Elvis Presley
I met Elvis on one dark and stormy night. It was a sultry night in the Deep South. The crickets were chirping, the toads were singing and it was late August. Lightning flashed all around me. The threat of rain was imminent. I lived in Calhoun County, Alabama.
I was walking home one night from the corner grocery store with a little bag of groceries in my arms. I needed something to fix for my dinner that night, a loaf of bread for tomorrows sandwich at work, and some bananas. I was trying to hurry home before the rain started. Suddenly, on the side of the road, just ahead of me, a man appeared. The figure startled me. I saw his outline in the bright light of a lightening flash. Nervously I kept walking toward the man. Soon, I came upon him.
I looked down toward the pavement feeling a little nervous, encountering this man on a dark, deserted country road. As I passed by he said, "Stranger! I'm hungry. Will you feed a poor hungry man?" I looked at him and felt startled. It felt like electricity was running up my back. I froze! There, standing in front of me was... who I am sure...was the King of Rock and Roll...Elvis Presley! I said, "Mister, you look just like Elvis Presley!" He said, "I am Elvis!" I gave him some bread and a banana and he went on his way walking down the side of the road toward the grocery store I had just left. I'm sorry I didn't have any peanut butter in my bag.
