My Mom chases Barbara Mandrell
My husband, kids, parents, and I were at Nashville airport 2 years ago waiting for our plane to be called to the gate. We were waiting with some very impatience kids, but I think my Mom was even worse knowing that we were getting ready to fly to Orlando, Florida.
We had been there for almost an hour when I heard an increase in noise. I really was wondering what was coming down the hall, when I looked up and saw a really short person surrounded by several larger men. As they passed me by, I got a really good look at Barbara Mandrell as she went walking by.
My Mom had just started out of the bathroom and missed her by just a few seconds. I told my Mom that she had just passed by, and I thought she was going to die. I didn't realize that she was such a Barbara fan. She hopped up from her bench seat and started down the terminal at a really brisk pace. Mrs. Mandrell had to stop up at the checkpoint and my Mom was right up there by her watching her go through security.
When Mom got back to her seat, I asked her if she had said anything to her, and she replied that she hadn't. She hadn't wanted to bother her, she just wanted to see if it was really her, and she couldn't believe that it really was. She had never seen anyone famous before.
I really think it helped Mom on our flight, she couldn't believe that Barbara Mandrell really took a public plane, with "regular" people like us.
My Mom passed away this last year, but one of my favorite memories of her was her chasing Barbara Mandrell down in the Nashville Airport.
