Dinner Date With Annette
In 1963, I was at a school dance when I was called to the phone. An old freind tried to tell me my named was just announced as the winner of a date with Annette Funicello. I responded with a "Oh sure!" And it was equally dismissed when I got back to my table of friends. But when I got home that night my whole family was awake wating for me.
It seems my sister sent my name in, and I had actually won. She even was allowed to go along with me. Some date huh? Well seems a DJ in all the surrounding cities had a similar promotion for one of Annette's movies.
So even though I wasn't the only one there, I did get to meet her and have my picture taken with her. She was very nice and of course beautiful.
Even today, people will come up to me and ask "Weren't you the guy who went out with Annette Funicello?" I never had the opportunity to tell them my little sister went along with me.
