My husband held me back, jealous of my celebrity status(NOT)
My husband and I had been voted King and Queen of the Long Beach Carnival. We were up on a stage in full carnival costumes and huge feathered head dresses, in front of thousands of people, and I was in my diva glory, chatting up the crowd and smoothly announcing the performers, most of them incredibly talented but relativly unknown except to locals and loyal fans. Finally a Famous Name. Jazz legend and icon, Etta James, was the next entertainer. My husband grabbed the microphone from my hand and annnounced, "You've been doing all the talking, it's my turn now." Ms James stepped onto the podium, a hush fell over the crowd, as my husband yelled in the microphone,"AND NOW, THE GREAT EDNA JOHNSON!" I watched all potential commerical endorsements go down the drain . I was still a NOBODY.
