Airport Encounter
My father lives in Allentown, Pennsylvania. I live in Sydney, Nova Scotia...both known "steel towns". As a teenager I spent one summer with my dad in Allentown. The day I returned to my local airport, Billy Joel, known for his song "Allentown" was also there...a spotting such as this is a definite rarity in this small town. The previous week, in Allentown, reference was made to his song in the newspaper stating that "Allentown is still trying to conform to the image Billy Joel created"...I called out to him at the airport and told him he had "made the papers". When I told him why, he shrugged his shoulders and said "tell them it was just a song". Of course, I was lucky I could say anything as my mother kept shouting..."MY BABY WAS CONCEIVED TO "WE DIDN'T START THE FIRE""...no less than the neatest and equally most embarrassing moment of my life.
