Met Ellen when she was first doing stand-up in New Orleans
Ellen was dating my girlfriend's roommate’s sister, Barbara Menendez, who was in a punk band with Ellen's brother, Vance, called The Cold. Once, I was at the roommate's apartment and Ellen was there cutting up and working on material for her stand-up act. I remember walking out and waiting for a bus with her on the neutral ground on Canal Street and asking her what she was planning on doing in the future. She said, "I'm going to do comedy and move to the West Coast." The rest, as they say, is history.
