Barbra Streisand

My brothers and I grew up in the Vanderveer Estates housing project in Brooklyn, New York. My mother's friend, Diana Kind, frequently volunteered her daughters, Rosalind and Barbra, to do babysitting for my mom. Both Barbra (Streisand) and her half-sister Rosalind (Kind) babysat for me. I distinctly remember being made to walk home from the movie theater on Church Avenue once (20 blocks!) so that one of the two could pocket the bus fare that my mother gave her to get us both home. All was forgiven, however. Barbra's mom made the best orange jello in the neighborhood. What more could a little kid want?
