Ice T in Vegas
I was in Vegas with a group of friends from work. One night we went to Studio 54 in the MGM Grand. It was pretty busy and I remember looking up right as the crowds parted to let a guy in a sharp red suit walk by. As he got closer, I realized it was Ice T about to walk right by us. I started fumbling with my purse trying to get to my camera to snap a shot. But, no luck. I tried to tell my friends that he had just walked by, but it was so loud in there they didn't understand me..."What? you want a long island iced tea?" When they finally got it, my girlfriend grabbed me by the hand and we set out in search of him. We walked by the VIP area, where I spotted a red pant leg sticking out from behind a bodguard. We were standing at the ledge, waiting for a glimpse, when there was a "changing of the guard." For a brief moment, we had a perfect view and he looked over at us and smiled. I tapped my heart, mouthing the words "I'm a big fan." He got up from his chair and walked over to us. He leaned in, I said again that I was a big fan and could I take his picture. He said yes. Now, what I didn't know was that my camera battery was low. So when I went to take the picture the camera froze. Out of frustration (and a couple of drinks), I started slamming the camera on my leg and yelling "noooooooooo." On its 3rd or 4th trip above my shoulder, the camera took the picture and the flash got Ice T right in the eye. Great, now I've blinded him. He was great! He grabbed the camera out of my hand, handed it to my friend, put his arm around me and said "let's try this again." It seemed like time stood still for a moment...I just remember a voice in my head yelling "smile, Skye, smile." My friend snapped the shot and we thanked him for his time. I even saw him later signing autographs without any bodyguards. And the pictures...turned out great. One of his beautiful red shirt and the other, Ice T and Skye with her huge smile.
