I met Adam Sandler at Virginia Tech after one of his stand-up shows. WHAT A THRILL!
Adam Sandler was doing a college tour of his stand-up routine in the late 90s. I was a huge fan at the time having bought all his CDs and listening to them religiously. Of course all his skits on Saturday Night Live were memorized too. I had tickets to both shows that he was doing at Virginia Tech. The first night, I sat through the entire thing and nearly fell out of my seat laughing. I stayed through the encore and loved every minute of it. The second night, I wore my Red Hooded Sweatshirt (shammalammadingdong) and hoped to meet him after the show as I knew where his tour bus was parked. I skipped the encore this time and joined a group of about 30 college kids outside his bus. Sure enough, he came running out, shook our hands and hopped right on his bus. We all waited for a while hoping he would come out to sign autographs but he never did. I saw his driver standing outside the bus smoking and flirting with the girls. I had the bright idea to give him my Red Hooded Sweatshirt to give to Adam. He in turn stopped Adam's manager who was on his way out to the bus. His manager looked at me and then stepped onto the stairs of the bus. He talked to someone and then came back out and pointed at me and motioned for me to come there. I just about fell over. Everyone was going crazy because I was the only one he invited onto his bus that night. The things that stuck out in my mind as I was so starstruck, I had nothing intelligent to say, was the dark blue velvet interior of the bus, "The Bus" hat Adam was wearing, and the fact that he was playing the bongos when I got on board. I talked to him for a few minutes, offered him my beloved Red Hooded Sweatshirt, took a picture, and then wished him the best. Out of the now-growing group of people surrounding his bus that night, I was the ONLY one who got to visit with him and get his autograph and picture. I could hardly sleep that night because it was so thrilling for me. It is a fond memory of my early 20s and I am so happy to see the success that Adam has continued to enjoy in his career. Bring on the 20 DVDs!! LOL.
