Mother's Day Dilemma
In the Historic town of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, my family and I were out for a drive on Mother's Day 2005. The sun was shining and it was cool, so we decided to drop by Large Marge's Diner for dinner. As we sat down and ate our meal, I noticed someone by the window reading the newspaper. I glanced then dismissed the man, thinking he was a local. While we ate, I kept glancing over my husband's shoulder with the strangest feeling that I should know the man. At this point he was still reading the paper, drinking a coffee, and now talking to his mom on the phone. My husband whipped his head around to see who I was looking at, jealous of the attention I was paying to a stranger. I told him the man looked familiar. So, when I walked the kids to the counter for ice cream, I stared, trying to figure out who he was. It wouldn't come to me. After we left, it still bothered me, and when we were almost home I realized it was Billy Campbell. Oh my God! I yelled, scaring my husband and kids. I yelled out who he was and wanted to go back, but we were too far. I was so stupid! The next day he was on our local news preparing to go on a ship for the next year.
