Willie Nelson at the Ramada Inn Motel?!!!
I used to work at a Ramada Inn Motel. One night we had a guest checking in by the name of Mr. Willie Nelson. We thought it was a joke, probably a made up name. Many guests used to make up names to hide their fun night away from the wifey or hubbie. Anyway, that's a whole 'nother talk show...!
Sure enough, 11pm rolls around, and a giant black tour bus with gold waves on the side pulls in to the parking lot. A young man runs up to the desk, quickly leaving a credit card for incidentals, takes a key to the suite, and informs us that the suite will be used for everyone on the bus "except Mr. Nelson....he likes to stay ON THE TOUR BUS!"
I so badly wanted to see this guy in person, but we were informed by hotel management not to go knocking on the tour bus door or we will be severely reprimanded.
Surprisingly we did not receive any noise complaints from surrounding guests, and the suite was left in perfect condition the next morning. Some of us at the desk thought they would trash the room and leave a big old mess for us to clean up. They were only there for a few hours, and were checked out by 8am. Maybe it was just a great place to stop, shower, grab a nap which wasn't on wheels, and get back on tour!
Although I never saw Willie Nelson and his funny hair braids IN PERSON, his crew were really nice and professional. I did ask for his autograph, but they said he was sleeping and were not to wake him up.
Who would think that a small town in New Jersey would get WILLIE NELSON to check in, and for it to be the REAL Willie Nelson?! Amazing! He must have been playing somewhere like the Meadowlands or Giant's Stadium here in NJ, or maybe in New York City, which is only an hour away.
