Axel Rose/Guns N' Roses in College Bar 1988
In the summer of 1988 at Ohio State University in Columbus, OH a friend and I were spending a warm night at a campus bar named Papa Joes (which has since burned down). We were in the outdoor patio sitting at a picnic table. A group of guys came in dressed in spandex, with long hairsprayed hair, and snakeskin boots. They sat down at the table my friend and I were at. The others in the patio area were looking at the guys like we were and under our breath making comments since they were definitely out of place and strange looking.
Since GNR was just becoming famous no one knew who they were and stayed away from them. Then the DJ made an announcement that the manager of the bar had "special guests" come in since they were playing a concert the next night at a venue 40 miles away and the band GNR was in the house. It was then we and everyone else knew who these guys on the patio were.
Instantly we were surrounded by 100 people staring at Axel, Slash and the others. They stayed for 10 minutes, then left out a back patio door to a waiting van, but before they left they all went to a tree next to the van and took a piss as everyone in the patio looked on. Once done they waved, got in the van and took off.
