Met Lena Horne at Fairmont Hotel-San Francisco 1962
Originally from Virginia, I was working nights as a hatcheck girl at the Fairmont Hotel where Ms. Horne was performing. One night she emerged from the elevator looking glorious in a white satin gown & a red-lined satin cape. She looked like a goddess floating down the hallway. As she reached my stand she paused & said: "Didn't your stand used to be on the other side of this hallway?" I replied: "I reckon so Miss Horne. I'm new here." She just doubled over, holding her sides & went reeling & laughing down the hall. She stopped one of the stewards and said: " Ah reckon! Ah reckon! Sounds just like home!"
