David Bowie
When I was a teen, a friend and I decided to take the bus from OC to Hollywood in the mid 80's (yeah I know it's been awhile!). We walked around and saw the sights, including one cafe on Sunset Blvd. There were all these motorcycles out front, which intrigued us. There were a group of guys sitting on them chatting away. As we galloped past I noticed that one of the men looked exactly like David Bowie of whom I was a GIANT fan of. I had to ask, OF COURSE.
I proceeded to walk up to him and asked, "Are you David Bowie?" He smirked and trying to hide his accent said "No. Do I look like him?" I said yes. I don't believe you." I looked into his eyes intently and had my answer. "YOU LOOK LIKE BOWIE.. AND you have 2 different colored eyes! Yeah right." I think he was worried I would be a crazed fan. Perhaps he was right, as he does make me swoon. I later heard on the radio that he was in town and not only that but that he was enjoying riding his Harley around L.A. with friends, as he is a big Harley Davidson Motorcycle enthusiast.
I did not know at that time that, though I came inches from his face that day, I would later go on to photograph him in my professional career. Bowie was by far one of the most memorable days. I'll never forget hearing that voice speaking to ME!
