I met him when he was a young boy.
In the 1970s I was working as an usher in a theater in Dayton, Ohio, where Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara were starring in a play. One of my responsibilities was to stand in the foyer to make sure that people did not smoke. During one of the acts, while I was in the near-empty foyer, I met this young boy about 10-12 who was playing on the stairs. I started talking to him and he told me that his parents were Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara. Wondering if he had a desire to follow in his famous parents' footsteps I asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up. "An airplane pilot," he replied.
Today I sometimes think back to that 12-year-old boy and wonder if he ever got his pilot's license.
