Met and talked with Audie Murphy (soon after World War II, and when he had just started making movies.
When I was a young teenager a number of years ago, my high school band was making an appearance at the Mesquite Rodeo in Texas, when we found out that Audie Murphy was also there (his hometown). We all waved at him and he came over and sat right in the middle of us (and right next to me). I was amazed at how young he looked. (He looked just like us!) He was so open, giving and happy. He stayed with us for hours. He gave me an autograph on a piece of sheet music (which I still have). I will always treasure that memory and feel that I had experienced something very special that night.
