Bucks County (in the winter) - Part 2 A Surprise Around Every Corner
Written by: Christine Coviello
More than just B&Bs and crafts, but a couple of things to do in this section of Pennsylvania.
Day 2
On Tuesday, we woke up to have breakfast at The Spotted Hog Restaurant. What more can you ask for breakfast? They had a great selection of breakfast foods, fast friendly service, and good fair prices. The waitstaff at this restaurant was quick and friendly. They even helped give us directions and suggestions for our week’s activities.
We drove literally right down the block to Penn’s Purchase. This is a new outlet shopping center, quite different from Peddler’s Village. It has about 40 big-name outlet shops. Since we were there mid week, it was easy to find a parking spot and the stores were empty. At first I was thrown off by this feeling; it was like a ghost town. But as I got used to the idea, I started to feel like the town of shops was open just for me! The staff in all the stores was nice and helpful, and I found some real bargains. Most of the stores had some kind of sale running. It was so nice to walk around a store at my leisure and not feel crowded. Shopping was actually a pleasure. Usually I have to beg Vincent to stay "just a little bit longer," but at one point, I couldn’t even find him—he was having such a good time doing his own thing. After we were finished there, we went back to Peddler’s Village to shop some more at the stores we missed.
That night we had one of the highlights of our whole trip. This was another surprise. We had reservations at Jenny’s Bistro in Peddler’s Village. This is promoted as a "bistro" and "casual dining" establishment. I have to say we had the best meal of our entire trip at Jenny’s. We were so pleased with everything we ordered. So much so, that I asked for the recipe for the artichoke crab dip appetizer that was out of this world. Everything from the salads, entrée, and desserts were obviously made with care. I had the steak, and Vincent had the chicken; they were both mouth watering. The surroundings were wonderful; we had a table by the window to look outside at the snow falling lightly. It was quiet and relaxing...just what we needed. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone coming to Peddler’s Village, and if you are not in the area, make a trip, it is worth it!
